The rauks rise high and low from the sea and are scattered all along the coast. During the Krim war (1953-1956) the allied Baltic Sea fleet used F\u00e5r\u00f6sund as their military base. In 1953 electricity was installed in the lighthouse, but the light source before that consisted of rapeseed oil lamps and after that kerosene lamps. The tower of the lighthouse is 24 meters high. The lighthouse is as of 1977 unmanned. An outstanding experience all times of the year. The area has a lot of ancient monuments, ranging from 2000 year old graves to earth cellars and lime kilns from the 19th-century. Dressed up as everything from easter bunnies, witches and chickens the participants march together through the streets of Visby. The landscape did not just play an important part in seven of his films, F\u00e5r\u00f6 was where he lived and worked for long periods of his life before he settled there. The Bergman week is a 6 day long homage to Ingmar Bergman\u00b4s artistry, with movie screenings, seminars and guided tours to his shooting locations. The purpose is to keep Bergman\u00b4s work alive and available and to create a context where Bergman\u00b4s movies can meet a new audiens and where his world of ideas kan be discussed.<br \/>\nThe Bergman week is arranged every year during week 26 by The Future of F\u00e5r\u00f6, Film on Gotland and The Gothenburg Film Festival in collaboration with the Collage of Gotland and the Ingmar Bergman Foundation.<\/p>\n<h2>The Roma Theater<\/h2>\n<p>The Roma theater at the Roma monestery ruin is one of Swedens biggest and most beautiful summer theater scenes. The Almedal\u00b4s week is always arranged during week 27.<\/p>\n<h2>The Children\u00b4s Choir Week<\/h2>\n<p>The Children\u00b4s Choir Week on F\u00e5r\u00f6 in a recurrent and much appreciated summer event for both the young and the elder even though the children are the ones in focus.Since 1989 people have gathered to sing and have fun in F\u00e5r\u00f6\u00b4s wonderful landscape. In the beginning the number of participants were few, but over the years over 300 singers have taken part in six different choirs. Every year, during week 32, the medieval era returns to Gotland an Visby in particular. The Medieval Week is the country\u00b4s biggest historic festival with medieval music, theater, markets, spectacles, tournaments, lectures and courses. Over 300\u00a0events with a mixture of history, fairy tales, seriousness and festivity.<\/p>\n<h2>Market Autumn on Gotland<\/h2>\n<p>By the end of August, the yearly autumn markets on Gotland start with a large traditional market in Slite.
